UK BIC – Cleanroom Fire Compliance
Precision Fire Protection in a Controlled Manufacturing Environment
GI Construction Solutions was engaged by ARDMAC to deliver passive fire protection for a new cleanroom facility at the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UK BIC). Valued at £40,000 and completed over 12 weeks, this project required highly specialised installation techniques within a sensitive, controlled environment.
Project Scope
Our task was to supply and install passive fire protection systems within the cleanroom environment, ensuring all penetrations and structural interfaces were fire-safe and compliant. All installations were carried out using Kingspan Firemaster Panels (Whitewall)—a material chosen for its cleanroom compatibility and performance under fire-testing standards.
The cleanroom was part of a high-tech manufacturing facility, meaning both technical precision and strict contamination control were essential throughout.
Key Challenges
Working within a cleanroom environment introduces unique logistical and compliance challenges. In this case, our team needed to:
- Remove and reconfigure sections of the structural ceiling grid to gain access to fire-stopping zones
- Ensure all installations met both fire safety regulations and cleanroom standards
- Minimise dust, disruption, and potential contamination throughout the build process
Time constraints also added complexity—each task had to be carefully sequenced to avoid delays to other specialist contractors working within the cleanroom shell.
Our Approach
Drawing on our previous experience in cleanroom passive fire installation, we adopted a careful, methodical approach:
- All materials and techniques were selected in line with manufacturer guidance and cleanroom protocols
- Ceiling grid removal and reinstatement were executed with precision, using containment procedures to maintain the integrity of the controlled space
- Every phase of the work was documented through our quality assurance system, providing full transparency to the client and compliance teams

Results
The project was completed on time and to full compliance, delivering:
- Certified passive fire protection within all required zones
- Seamless integration with cleanroom finishes and equipment
- Minimal site disruption, with all access challenges safely and effectively managed
Our success at UK BIC highlights GI Construction Solutions’ ability to work in high-spec, regulated environments where fire safety and operational cleanliness must go hand-in-hand.
